I have a new favorite breakfast combo:
New fave breakfast consists of a small-ish bowl of simple oatmeal:
Pre-cooking ingredients:
- 1/4 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup water
Post-cooking ingredients:
- sprinkling of sliced almonds (store in the freezer to keep longer than in than pantry)
- sprinkling of TJ's ground blueberry flaxseed
- slight drizzle of real maple syrup
Why I like it? It's so simple and can be made with some of the most basic pantry ingredients. I store the ground flaxseed and almonds in the freezer to extend their shelf life. The oats and maple syrup already last pretty long. A banana would be a nice addition, but we haven't had any around at all times, so simple oats it is.
But this breakfast wouldn't be complete without something savory to balance the sweetness of the oats - Morningstar "sausage" patty (I'm not vegetarian, but I love these little guys) - another great pantry item that keeps well in the freezer.
A nice, hot mug of milky-sweet coffee is the perfect breakfast beverage for moi. Especially if it's that Fresh Market Fair Trade Certified & Organic Guatemalan coffee I'm currently loving.Yum!
